Hypnotherapy to support you with sleep difficulties

Sleep is a cornerstone of our physical and mental wellbeing. Your body depends on regular sleep to maintain your health; it is no coincidence that sleep deprivation is a form of torture. When you get regular sleep you don’t give it too much thought but when you are struggling with getting or staying to sleep it becomes a real problem.

The impact of sleep on anxiety and weight gain

It is important to note that sleep (or lack of it) can have a huge impact on your body. When you are sleep deprived you are less able to resist fattening foods and this can lead to weight gain. You can also feel more anxious and less able to cope with stress.

For many people anxiety and sleep problems go hand in hand. This becomes a chicken and egg situation. It can feel that your brain won’t switch off as you overthink and ruminate at bedtime. Alternatively you may be able to get to sleep easily but wake suddenly at 3 or 4am and find yourself unable to get back to sleep. In other cases it may be that your body has got used to responding in a certain way at bedtime and the habit needs changing. Despite these varying reasons behind sleep problems hypnotherapy can help.

How hypnotherapy can help with sleep problems

Hypnotherapy can help your overactive brain calm down from racing thoughts. The state of trance mimics REM sleep (for more information on this please see my blog.) While you are in a deep physical relaxation your brain is busy; processing events and catching up with REM time you may have missed. This is very important and is often the missing link for clients who are struggling with sleep

While in hypnosis you are also more receptive to positive messages which can help improve your resilience. In between sessions I encourage clients to listen to my audio track at bedtime to further improve their sleep.

The talking, solution focused, part of the session is also key. During this time I work with you to look at your preferred vision of the future, without your problem. This can lead to insights and a more positive mindset.

Sleep hygiene

It can be a good idea to review your bed time routine and sleep habits. See more about sleep hygiene here.

Online hypnotherapy for clients with sleep problems

Online sessions are a very successful way of working. Clients are able to relax in their home environment which helps them feel safe and comfortable for the therapy work.

Hypnosis works well over Zoom and is safe. (For more information about how hypnotherapy works online please click here.)
