Support for weight loss is one of the most common reasons why clients seek hypnotherapy. Often clients may be looking for help with low mood or anxiety, but have found that these have gone hand in hand with weight gain. Other clients may feel in a good place mentally but have plateaued with weight loss and are looking for something to provide extra motivation. I offer three different ways you can work with me around weight loss.

  1. Individual sessions tackling weight loss and stress

For many people their weight gain is linked to stress as they find themselves comfort eating. Solution focused hypnotherapy helps to reduce your stress levels and make small steps towards improving your overall resilience and enjoyment of life. This provides you with the tools to create the life you want. It isn’t about waving a magic wand to make you hate chocolate but encouraging you to see your future in a more positive way.

Diet isn’t a term I use; after all we all get pleasure from eating. Food is an important part of life that we should all be able to enjoy. Feeling calmer, feeling more in control and more confident means you feel better about yourself and your life. You should begin to sleep better and this is very important for weight loss. If you have been suffering from poor sleep your body increases the amount of a chemical it naturally produces called ghrelin which tells your body when you are hungry. When sleep deprived, your body craves foods high in sugar and fat, and you find it harder to resist comfort eating. Hypnotherapy helps to improve the quality of your sleep and a gradual, healthy weight loss can be a by-product of this.

If during the initial consultation it becomes clear (to you and to me) that your weight gain is linked to stress, anxiety or low mood then I would recommend solution focused hypnotherapy sessions to help you get back on track with life generally. It is important to note that these sessions do not involve direct reference to weight loss. This approach provides a sustainable, long term approach to weight loss in helping you find a more optimistic and resilient approach to life

2. A more direct approach to weight loss looking at your personal stumbling blocks

Some clients prefer a more prescriptive approach to weight loss. To cater for this, I have developed a programme (approximately 6-8 sessions) to look at different aspects of a client’s relationship with food. These sessions are much more directive. I support clients around their individual sticking points (whether that’s sociable eating, a deeply engrained habit or emotional eating.) This follows a more coaching style of working alongside the all the subconscious benefits of hypnotherapy. I do not give dietary advice but each session includes targeted and personalised information around mindset to support you.

The focus is not on deprivation but on helping you develop a healthy mindset around food and more personal confidence in yourself.

Sessions will be longer (75-90 minutes) to allow extra time to discuss how you may want to implement the knowledge you have learned. You then receive notes from the session including the action points you have identified through our discussions.

At the end of the session there is time for personalised, relaxing hypnotherapy which really helps you process all you have learnt and has you leaving the therapy room feeling motivated, upbeat and great! Between sessions

It is important to note that between sessions in all my approaches you need to consider what has been discussed and continue to listen to the relaxation track I will provide you with on a regular basis to achieve the best results. Both approaches are designed to equip you with tools to develop a healthier mindset around food, not just in the short term but going forward for the rest of your life.

I support clients with weight loss online as well as face to face. Clients are able to relax in their home environment which helps them feel safe and comfortable for the therapy work.
