Hypnotherapy to help you with anxiety

Anxiety (or fear) is a natural human emotion. Our brains are programmed to keep us safe by looking out for threats to our survival. This is an important part of our human design. Unfortunately at times, whether this is due to stress or particular events, anxiety can increase so that we can begin to feel this fear for much of the time.

Mental symptoms of anxiety

Anxiety can present with a variety of physical and emotional symptoms. Excessive worrying is a very common symptom of anxiety. Clients may describe not being able to stop worrying; either thinking about things that could go wrong in the future, or replaying events or conversations that have already taken place. Further emotional symptoms include a sense of unease or restlessness, irritability, having difficulties concentrating and feeling generally less able to cope with life. This can lead to changes in behaviour such as avoiding certain situations due to losing confidence and becoming more fearful.

Physical symptoms of anxiety

Physical symptoms of may anxiety include difficulties sleeping, losing your appetite or comfort eating, a racing heart or panic attacks. It may also include the feeling of a lump in your throat. It is a good idea to consult a doctor to rule out a physical cause if you have these symptoms.

Different types of anxiety

Anxiety can present in a number of different ways. Some of the most common include social anxiety, phobias or generalised anxiety. To find out more about the different types of anxiety please see here.

How solution focused hypnotherapy can support you with anxiety

My sessions have two parts. The first part is a conversation with you which starts by focusing on recent positives. This helps you to see the broader picture and supports a more positive mindset, getting you mentally into the right place for the session. We then discuss small steps you can take towards a brighter future and the goals you want to achieve. This helps build on this sense of hope and takes your mind away from anxiety. The actual hypnotherapy then helps calm your mind down so that you are able to relax physically and mentally. This can have a powerful impact on your anxiety. During the trance state you are also more receptive to positive messages about living your life in the best way. Listening to the audio track I provide you with in between sessions is an important part of this process.

It is also important to reassure clients that some anxiety is normal. The problem is when it is out of proportion. Rather than focusing on the problem itself the client and I discuss a future without the problem. This solution focused approach is positive and powerful, and can lead to significant changes.

Anxiety is the most likely reason clients contact me for sessions and hypnotherapy really can make a difference in helping you feel more in control of your life.
