Can hypnosis make me do things I don’t want to do?

No!

During the hypnosis you will be fully aware. It often feels a little like daydreaming.

Hypnosis is not a magical process that makes you do things you don’t want to do. It cannot cure you instantly of a problem. Rather it helps you access the strengths you already have to deal with and address the difficulties you are facing.

Can everyone be hypnotised?

Some people think they are unable to be hypnotised. While it is true that if you are determined not to be hypnotised then it will not work for you, being in a hypnotic (or trance) state is a natural one. We have all experienced the sense of flow when we are caught up in the moment. The hypnotic state is not dissimilar.

How do you become hypnotised?

During a session you will relax on a comfortable chair or couch. You may use a blanket for extra comfort. You shut your eyes, slowly relaxing each part of your body, following my descriptions. You then take an imaginary journey to a beautiful place like a garden or beach. This is very relaxing and enjoyable. When you are in a relaxed state you are then more open to receive positive suggestions and ideas both from my words and your own thought processes.

How many sessions will I need?

This depends on the problem. It is difficult to put an estimate on the number of sessions you may need. The exceptions to this are when you have a phobia which takes three sessions after the initial consultation and smoking cessation which is two full sessions. Many clients experience improvements in the first couple of sessions! However I generally advise clients to have weekly sessions for at least 5 or 6 weeks. After this sessions may take place every fortnight or month.

How does it work?

Hypnotherapy helps you calm down your busy, overactive mind so that your subconscious becomes much more receptive to positive suggestions. Through the use of trance you are able to focus your mind to help the changes you want to make.

Solution focused based talking therapies help you identify the steps you need to take to make the future that you want for yourself, and by combining the two approaches you have a powerful tool for change

Should I have face to face hypnotherapy sessions or sessions online via Zoom?
